The evening started with a fashion tide that will have people saying, “I’ll never wear cable knits again.” Nina Ganci’s Skif International presentation Wednesday was timely, funky, edgy and occasionally sophisticated (who knew that was in her arsenal of tricks). Her merry band of knitters created floor-length dresses, shawls, pants and mini skirt ensembles that clung to all the right curves, but were always more playful than overtly sexy. As usual for the avante garde knitting company, pieces were made to be experimented with. It’s almost impossible to wear something inside out or upside down without finding a new option for the garment. Skif excelled at making items that seemed destined to be your favorite new wardrobe item. And the collection put modern cookie-cutter sweater dresses to shame. I’m so glad, I opted not to wear one that night. Not every guy would feel confident enough to sport the hip-knit looks that are bound to be noticed and adored by every woman within eyesight, but the guys who do won’t lack for company.    Debra Bass
